Legislation proposed to short circuit transmission line from Canada

The battle to keep the NRG Dunkirk coal-fired power plant in operation has seen another front opened.

A proposed line to bring power from Canada to New York City, and the payment of its costs, is the subject of a bill introduced in the New York State Senate.

Dunkirk’s representative in the state Senate, Catharine Young, has announced legislation (S.7391) that would prohibit any electric corporation seeking to build or expand an electric facility or transmission line that maintains a starting point outside the United States and an end point within New York state from using the power of eminent domain.
