Federal HR 3280, the Powering America for Tomorrow Act, subtitle: Regional Transmission Plan

06 Mar

We received the following email that we thought we would send out and ask for some of you to review and let us know what threats there might be in it. Pete, our Northern Opposition Friend who sent it believes it is a threat since it changes the regulations regarding approval for transmission and other electric projects. It reads to us that is sets up a new commission (or several actually) and that it changes the approval process. Below the message you will find a link to the Federal House Bill (which is why Pete suggests we contact Congressman Bass.)

HR 3280, the Powering America for Tomorrow Act, subtitle: Regional Transmission Plan is the latest plan to give FERC the power to bypass state prerogatives in deciding the siting of power line projects. Under the guise of smart grid and regional redundancy, etc. they will usurp state authority if the states involved don’t sign on quickly enough, whatever that means. This appears to me to be a grave threat to NH as we could find ourselves overwhelmed by the already envisioned projects. The power generators and power line construction industries are obviously behind this as they are annoyed with the delays caused by having to deal with outraged citizens. I have contacted Representative Bass to express my concern. I think we ought to have a full court press on Representative Bass on this issue. NP has not slacked off at all. The PR and dissembling continue unabated, as does their determination to find any way at all to push it through.

We very much need to contact our state legislators to pass power corridor legislation before we find ourselves out maneuvered and turned into a HQ power corridor. So, I think that we should work together and promote calling, e-mailing, snail mailing, visiting our State Senators and Representatives, urging them to fast track the process.
