We received the regular newsletter from the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) today and wanted to share some information. As you know CELDF has been helping some local towns draft ordinances to stop Northern Pass from going through. Their web site is http://www.celdf.org.
CELDF has also offered several Democracy Schools in New Hampshire this past year and plans to host another in Lancaster this winter.
In their Newsletter, CELDF reports:
“Over the past year we’ve expanded our organizing across the Marcellus Shale region and the country. Residents in State College, PA, just adopted an amendment to their local Home Rule Charter, which constitutionalizes a Local Bill of Rights, and protects those rights by banning corporations from drilling and associated activities. We assisted our local partner organization Groundswell to develop the initiative – the first in the U.S. to amend a charter to ban drilling. The Newsletter also notes that podcasts are available on their website:
“If you haven’t had a chance to tune in yet, this week on our radio program Democracy Matters we are finishing our 3-part series on why corporate rights matter. You can link to podcasts of the show on our website (http://celdf.org/democracy-matters-podcasts”
The last three podcasts focus on Corporations matter and the impact of corporate power on our lives and the environment.
