Statewide Campaign

This is not the first time there has been conversation in New Hampshire about whose authority – the state’s or a municipality’s – should determine what happens at the community level. Self-determination was the norm in the colonial era, before federalism absorbed the individuality of each state into a uniformly – governed nation, with power concentrated at the federal level. And the State largely absorbed the governing autonomy of once-self-governing communities. Some would argue this governing power is in the hands of the corporate elite, the results of allowing banks and large corporations to wield their power; something Jefferson warned us about when he said, “I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country”.
