Lynne Placey Honored at Meeting for Standing Up to Northern Pass and Saying “No”

23 Jan

People from the Plymouth area and beyond braved the cold to support an event today in which Lynne Placey was given $2,650. raised from the Dinner & Movie event at the Flying Monkey last Dec.

She was met in the lobby just before 11 a.m. this morning and enjoyed a warm welcome, including several rounds of applause. Lynne is viewed as a hero by thousands of New Hampshire residents for her refusal to sell out “her family land, her community, county and State” to the Northern Pass. Lynne says “loyalty to my family’s heritage is far more important than financial gain, and I could not sleep at night if I succumbed to the temptation of easy money. I also feel it is important to consider the desires of my friends and neighbors who do not want Northern Pass.”

Lynne who is a widow from Stewartstown, N.H. has gone through her savings trying to defend her land from the Northern Pass Transmission Project. She was offered about a half million dollars for a large portion of her property. Her nephew Landon Placey, had been asked to persuade her to sell. She adamantly refused and had to hire legal help to secure land that has been owned by her husband for many years.

Placey was presented with a check for $2000. from the Flying Monkey movie and silent auction fundraiser that took place on Dec. 9. Also presented today was a check for $500. from the Alliance Against the Northern Pass, as well as money donated by individuals. One man who walked by today’s check presentation on Main St. in Plymouth was moved to write a check to Lynne on the spot!

Lynne said, ” I feel humbled by this generous show of support and thank everyone who has been a part of this outpouring of solidarity and encouragement. It means more to me than words can express. I consider it a blessing that so many people have reached out to me when I was in need. My grandson Ransom, who is fourteen years old, said to me recently, “See what happens Gram when you do the right thing!”
